Mother and Chld
My four-year-old son declared one day, “Mommy, you are not my mom”. Imagine my surprise!
Here is blog about what he meant and our full conversation:
The world is a movie set.
We all come as actors with assigned roles.
Children are not born to fulfil our dreams. They are born for us to take care of them so they can pursue their own dreams.
They do learn and absorb some negatives and positives from the parents, society and environment. All the negatives and positives are meant to help them grow on their journey towards their own life fulfillment, however long it takes.
Children come with innate knowledge of their life path and their connection to the Divine but the adults/parents end up missing that communication from them most of the time.
Sometimes children are very obvious in stating their Divine connection, sometimes they are not. They do have the wisdom that we can learn from. They come as reminders for our spiritual growth. Perhaps next time you hear a child say something that seems imaginary or beyond your understanding be open to hearing them out and considering the possibility that they could be giving a glimpse into the Truth we’ve forgotten.
My son was a very quiet child and a late talker. He hardly spoke any full sentences. I was a quiet parent too so perhaps that contributed to his late speech. One usual afternoon, after my four-year-old son woke up from his nap he announced in his sweet casual tone, ‘Mommy, you are not my mom’.
For a moment I thought he was angry at me about some reason therefore he’s decided to disown me as his mother. However, he didn’t sound angry. So I asked him, ‘What makes you say that?’ He replied again, “Mommy, you are not my mom and I am not your son”.
I was taken aback by this double pronouncement. I even wondered if someone had put a lie in his head that he was an adopted child.
I inquired again what he meant by his statement. He calmly elaborated in, “Mom, you are pretending to be my mom and I’m pretending to be your son. You are not really mom (my name according to him) and I am not really Vik (his name). It (Life) is just a pretend game”.
AND SO IT IS! The ancient wisdom of the sages spoken through a four-year-old. Life is all a pretend play.
I was thrilled with joy and relieved that the little child already knew this profound truth. This is a fact of our earthly life we all typically forget as we grow in age. Our life journey entails then going through life experiences that take us back to remembering this truth.
We are eternal intelligent souls who take on bodily forms to be born to parents, family and environment that provide us our unique set of experiences. Good, bad or ugly they are experiences that best suit our individual spiritual growth while in body. We all have our uniquely independent journeys and destinies.
When we start believing that our only identity is our body and mind we also start getting too attached to our loved ones believing they are body and minds too. We want to hold them tight and impose our fears and beliefs on them consciously or unconsciously. Love is giving them the guidance as best as we know but also freedom for them to explore their own pathway to growth.
Life is a role play. Everyone is playing a role of their own selection. You do not ‘own’ your child since child is on his/her own individual independent path. It’s critical for everyone to be given the space and time to figure out their own path guided by their own intelligent internal thermostat, however rocky or smooth that may be.
Children do give us many hints or direct statements of their current life journey they pre-design before their birth. They do have amazing undiluted connection to the Divine that comes through to teach us. My children have been some of my best teachers. Listen for those words of wisdom from them. They surprise us, they teach us, they delight us. 🙂
My two little children – 4 and 5 revealed a huge insight to me during their innocent little summer time squabble. That story to be continued in next blog.
Joyful discovery of Life to all,
Ritu
